Keanan does Bowie

My friend Keanan Duffty, who besides being an amazing human being and an amazing musician, just released a line of clothing he designed with David Bowie. Uh huh, it's at Target, but Keanan rules and the designs are great. Interview with Keanan here.

Interview with Frank Kozik.

Click here to jump to my interview with toy, poster, & pop artist
Frank Kozik
.

Frank opens up and talks about art, the creative process, and his fascinations with Hello Kitty and deceased dictators.

This is the first in a series of interviews that will appear on this blog over the next year. I will be interviewing many of the influential artists, business people, designers, and musicians that are continual inspirations for my own work. All of these people aren't just talented artists, they are amazing human beings. Stay tuned for interviews with the great German pixel artists eBoy (who also created Peecol with Kidrobot) & comic-art maestro Paul Pope, both coming soon!

Speaking at AIGA Design Convention October 12

I am speaking tomorrow morning at 10:30 onthe main stage of the AIGA Design Conference in Denver. Kurt Anderson from NPR will be interviewing. I'm an NPR addict and I love Kurt Anderson, I totally wonder what he looks like in real life.

Anyone who is there, please cheer loudly and encouragingly as I am totally nervous -- I just realized how many people are in the audience. ACK! There will be a roundtable discussion after. See you there!

Blacklab third album is out -- eBoy cover

I love this band to death. eBoy did the album cover. . The lead singer Paul Durham has been making really remarkable, touching music for years. I did some early album covers for them. Visit the blacklab site or iTunes, and if you like the music please buy the whole album. Support independent musicians!

Mist tilt nichole mad sket at circa opening.

This opening is totally crazy (I am sending this from the club floor). 3400 people at the door, Tilt, Mist, MadL, Sket, Tim Biskup, Mori Chax (who I still can't find), the Tados, Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba, Who Kid, Nichole, Peter Alessandra & Xander Gatien, giant Munny covered thick with Chalk, Dunny animation on the tables, Bruce La Bruce bondage style entrance to match Frank's labbit, Nichole in pleather, Chad letting people in all night, James brought his brother from Ireland, plus the greatest fans, painted bubble girls, and about a million other things. Somebody introduced Justin Timberlake to me and it was embarassing because I didn't recognize him. For real. Gotta run....

I'll never get around to doing this.

Buy armani suits and paint red stripes on them.

I am also fascinated lately by that sort of off-white paint that Levi's put on the pockets of their jeans instead of their stiched logo in 1943 because it was WW2 and they were running out of thread. It has thick caked look and cracks and wears beautifully. A long time ago (for me, in 1995 when I was buying and selling vintage jeans to support my filmmaking habit) I sold a deadstock pair to a Japanese collector of $8000. I want to paint that white paint all over the back of my Kicking Mule Jeans.

I also was obsessed by this idea for a while of doing a line of toys that is all flat black vinyl, with no paint, 50 pieces of each design, no more. Then I would rent an empty store in NYC or London or LA for a month and line them all up on the floor like soldiers, a thousand toys, and people could come in and buy them and take them away and when the toys sold out the store would be empty. The price would go up as the toys disappeared from the floor...
